Data Analyst

Position Description
The Data Analyst will create and manage data systems, as well as process, aggregate, and analyze data. Data will include anything from semi-processed Census and American Community Survey files, to raw, crowd-sourced data collected by local community groups. Data systems and data analysis will support a multitude of D3 projects aimed at driving better decision-making by local groups and policymakers.
Specific responsibilities of the Analyst include:
- Designing and building data systems, including relational databases;
- Preparing raw datasets for analysis, including cleaning and organizing datasets with a large number of records (up to 50 million) and variables (up to 25,000);
- Aggregating and querying data;
- Documenting metadata and data transformation methodology;
- Analyzing and visualizing data.
Required Skills
- Masters degree, or significant relevant work experience building and maintaining databases;
- Advanced knowledge of MS Access, including the:
- Ability to create relational databases
- Ability to use advanced query techniques to aggregate, update, and analyze data;
- Advanced knowledge of SQL;
- Ability to work independently and in collaborative groups;
- Relentless attention to detail;
- Ability to apply standard database logic to datasets of varying subject matter;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of R, including graphics libraries and ability to write custom functions;
- Advanced knowledge of one of SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL;
- Familiarity with Python, equivalent to a one-semester programming course plus one year of work-related experience;
- Familiarity with GIS and spatial analysis.
Compensation: This is a full-time benefits eligible position. Salary commensurate with experience.
