This report discusses studies of collective efficacy in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It describes how neighborhoods and residents function and how collective efficacy and social cohesion within those neighborhoods can help reduce and prevent crime. Further, the researchers explain why Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design assessments are critical to the success of data-driven crime prevention efforts; and provide strategies that support both police and communities in solving their neighborhoods’ problems. Their proposed method incorporates their research on how social cohesion and collective efficacy interact and builds upon existing community policing and crime prevention strategies.Â
