The Polis Center at IUPUI seeks an experienced candidate to fill the position of Senior Research Project Manager for its Community Informatics and Health Geoinformatics initiatives. The types of research and development projects include, but are not limited to: data integration and analysis, information systems, online data visualization, spatial analysis, community assessment, and community-based applied research projects. This position is responsible for developing project work plans, managing the research process, coordinating team activities, estimating project skill requirements, identifying appropriate resources and managing their integration into the team, defining and agreeing on deliverables and milestones, setting and controlling scope, as well as communicating status to senior management and stakeholders. This position will report to the Director of Community Informatics. The Polis Center at IUPUI is a unit of theIUPUI School of Liberal Arts dedicated to using collaboration, interdisciplinary research, and knowledge of spatial technologies to provide reliable information, thoughtful perspective, and creative solutions for the improvement of communities in Indiana and beyond.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works with senior management and stakeholders to help define scope, goals, and deliverables of research and development projects to support project and center goals.
  • Works with project team to develop project plans including estimates of resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. 
  • Coordinates multiple research and development projects in community and health geoinformatics from kick-off through project closure. Identifies and manages project dependencies, troubleshoots, and manages risks throughout project lifecycles to ensure timely completion of work by multiple, diverse project teams. Escalates issues and/or reassigns work as appropriate.
  • Tracks project requirements, refines as needed based on stakeholder input and/or project learnings, and monitors progress of requirements completion. 
  • Monitors work plans and project status and informs team members and stakeholders of progress. 
  • Conducts project team meetings and facilitates collaboration across related projects. Documents and follows-up on defined action items.
  • Develops project reports for internal and external audiences, as directed and approved by project director.
  • Supports internal and external project communication.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Master’s degree or five years of experience. Discipline open. MBA or related professional degree a plus.
  • PMP Certification a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience managing research and development projects, including large information systems projects, using generally accepted project management methodologies.
  • Experience working independently and within cross-functional teams in a collaborative, professional environment, including supervisory experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following project domains preferred: GIS, information systems, data analysis.
  • Conflict management skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse group clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint, and in project management software.

 

Salary and Rank: $50,000-$65,000 /Research Associate (RSS)
