Nutrition Labeling Evaluation Results Being Prepared
King County’s regulation requiring fast food and chain restaurants to display calorie and other nutritional information went into effect in 2009. To evaluate the impact of the regulation on patrons’ menu choices, Public Health carried out before-and-after- regulation surveys of restaurant patrons and, by random-digit-dial, King County adults. We also conducted focus groups of patrons and key informant interviews of major players to collect qualitative data on consumer reactions and to document how the regulation was passed. Public Health is now analyzing the results of surveys and will be releasing the results in a series of presentations, papers and reports, beginning with the American Public Health Association annual meeting in Denver in November.
