The National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (“NNIP”) operates neighborhoodindicators.org. It is NNIP’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect. Your privacy is critically important to us. At NNIP we have a few fundamental principles:
- We don’t ask you for personal information unless we truly need it.
- We don’t share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law, develop our products, or protect our rights.
- We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for the on-going operation of the site.
Below is our privacy policy which incorporates these goals. Although most changes are likely to be minor, NNIP may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and in NNIP’s sole discretion. We encourage you to check this page for these changes. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change. If you have any questions regarding our privacy policy or your personal data, please contact us at [email protected].
Privacy Policy Contents:
All Website Visitors
Like most website operators, NNIP collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. NNIP’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how visitors use its website. NNIP may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites and report the aggregate findings to funders, our partners, or other interested parties e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.
Cookies
A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. NNIP visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using the website.
Links to Partner Websites and other Third Parties
The NNIP website is designed to highlight the exciting work done by our partners and contains many links to reports, events, and other publications on partner organizations or third party websites. This Privacy Policy covers only the use of this site. NNIP is not responsible for the behavior of third party websites and strongly encourages web visitors to review the privacy policies of all externally-linked websites.
Registered Users and Editors
Gathering and Protection of Personally-Identifying Information
We ask staff members of partner organizations to provide a username and email address to be able to create a person profile page and edit or create content. We collect information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for these registered users. NNIP only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described in the NNIPNews subscriber section, except that blog commenter IP addresses are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the blog where the comment was left. NNIP may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with NNIP. We expect to keep this type of email to a minimum.
Comments on Tech and Tools
Registered users may submit comments in a private section on the website called “Tech & Tools”. We hold these comments on the website for future users’ understanding of particular product or service. If you would like to have a previous comment deleted, please contact [email protected].
Private Content
Users who are uploading content to the NNIP website have the option of marking the new content as “private.” While this content will not be generally visible to the public, we cannot guarantee that private content will remain private to this website. With over 200 (and growing!) registered users who have access to private content, “private” is a relative term. NNIP strongly encourages users to avoid adding private content to the website that is truly confidential. By uploading new content to the website you recognize these risks and agree to not hold NNIP responsible if it is found elsewhere.
Web Site Log Files
The NNIP website keeps a log of all changes to the site made by all users to the site. NNIP uses this information to check on the style and frequency of submissions from our partners. This allows NNIP to make periodic reports on partners’ use of the website, allowing NNIP to improve the website services and efforts based on the use of NNIP partners. NNIP does not publically disclose any information that would potentially identifies a specific user or partner organization.
Special attribution
The NNIP Privacy Policy is adapted from the policy made available by Automattic Inc. under a Creative Commons Sharealike license. Automattic Inc. runs the popular Wordpress blog hosting platform and NNIP appreciates and thanks them for sharing their hard work.
