NIJ Crime Mapping Research Conference

Sponsored by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), The Crime Mapping Research Conference focuses on place-based approaches to crime and public safety that seek to simultaneously address the interconnected relationships between people and their environments. Solutions to crime and public safety problems include those about “where” crime and disorder occur. These solutions include a combination of research, practice, technology and policy that provide a full perspective of the breadth and depth of a problem and the results of its solution. The application of geographic principles to better understand the context of these problems has come into the mainstream as the reemergence of geography has become a primary component in solving problems.

The conference is about understanding crime and public safety, and their effect on community.  It will showcase a range of research findings, practical applications, technology demonstrations and policy results.

At the event, NIJ awarded our Oakland NNIP partner, the Urban Strategies Council, the  Innovation in Crime Mapping prize for their map on foreclosures and crime to inform their Community Land Trust.
