NNIP Policy on Filling Mid-Year Vacancies on the Executive Committee

The NNIP Executive Committee is the central mechanism guiding NNIP's priorities, plans, and activities. Six representatives are elected from local NNIP partner organizations by the partnership and serve three-year terms on a rotating basis. Two representatives are elected annually each December and begin service in January.
In the case when a sitting NNIP Executive Committee member is unable to fulfill his or her full term, the network will take the following actions to fill the opening:
-
For those in the first year of service:
- If there was a third-place candidate in the previous year's election, we will offer the position to him or her to serve out the remainder of the term.
-
If there was not a third candidate in the previous year,
- If less than 3 months remain: the position will remain vacant until the end the calendar year.
- Otherwise: a previous member will be asked to fill the position until the end of the calendar year.
- With the regular election process, we will select three people: the top two candidates will serve the usual 3-year term and the third top candidate will serve a 2-year term.
-
For those in the second or third year of service:
- If less than 3 months remain: the position will remain vacant until the end the calendar year.
- Otherwise: a previous member will be asked to fill the position until the end of the calendar year.
- Then if we need to fill the third year of an open position, we will ask one of the members currently in their third year of service to serve for a fourth year.
