The Institute for Urban Policy Research serves as the research partner for the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas' United 2020 initiatiave. United 2020 established broad, community-wide goals in the areas of Income, Health, and Education for North Texas, and IUPR provides year to year assessments to track change and inform grantmaking priorities.
Using an in-depth analysis of American Community Survey (ACS) data, this baseline study finds that in 2010 there were an estimated 563,874 persons living in poverty in the United Way service area, which encompasses Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, and southern Denton counties in Texas. This represents a 25% increase from 2005.
