Near East Side: Social Service Needs of a Community
The City of Columbus partnered with Thoughtwell, Ragland Enterprises, and the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race & Ethnicity to conduct an assessment of current social service needs for Near East Side residents. Through collaborative efforts, the team utilized input from stakeholders and residents, secondary demographic data, and existing reports and studies to identify needs as they relate to social services, barriers to success, and existing assets within the community.
Feedback from stakeholders and residents identified three primary themes for the community, which includes: 1) Health, Social, and Emotional Needs, 2) Basic Needs, and 3) Youth Development Needs. Findings were used to develop final recommendations for the City of Columbus to consider moving forward.
