Report by Charlotte B. Kahn, Sr. Director, Boston Indicators Project, Jessica K. Martin, Research Manager, Boston Indicators Project
September 2011

Boston Indicators   (Boston)

The Measure of Poverty was released as a special report of the Boston Indicators Project in September 2011.  Findings show that the profile of poverty in Boston changed very little over the last twenty years but is more deeply concentrated in single-parent families in particular neighborhoods, more Bostonians are living in “hidden poverty” due to high living costs, and three years of state and local budget cuts due to the recession may have long-term consequences in mitigating the effects of poverty.

Release of the report included presentations to various community organizations, direct service providers, business and private sector leaders, and public officials.
