Partnership with Milwaukee Police Department on Byrne Grant

Data You Can Use   (Milwaukee)

2017

The Milwaukee Police Department contracted with DATA YOU CAN USE to serve as the research partner for its three-year Byrne grant – a place-based effort to strengthen police/community relations and engage residents’ voice in the construction and development of plans to strengthen Milwaukee’s Amani neighborhood.

The process has involved reviewing neighborhood demographic data, housing, employment and crime data and developing a “data quiz” about neighborhood conditions to be used as a knowledge leveraging and engagement tool. We are also facilitating the creation of a logic model, bringing together residents, the Police Department, community organizations, local churches and the District Attorney’s office and LISC- Milwaukee in identifying outcomes and indicators of success. Neighborhood Ambassadors helped in the creation of a resident survey, pre-tested the instrument and were trained in survey administration. When the data are collected, they’ll help vet results.
